COMPETITIVE PATHWAY
Who is eligible to participate in the competitive pathway?
Young pianists, string players (violin, viola, cello and double bass), and chamber groups (with piano and/or strings) age 21 and under are welcome to compete.
What are the fees to enter the competition?
The fee for the first round is $70 and if selected, the fee for the second round is $90. Details are on the registration form.
How are competitors adjudicated?
Round 1 performances are evaluated by an adjudicator specializing in the competitor’s instrument or discipline using the MMS 100-point rubric. Round 2 performances are evaluated independently by a panel of three adjudicators.
What repertoire do I need to prepare?
For Round 1, competitors submit two contrasting selections: one work or movement from the Baroque or Classical era and one selection from a different musical era or style. For Round 2, competitors must perform new repertoire that was not submitted in Round 1. Please refer to the rules and regulations for more details.
NON-COMPETITIVE PATHWAY
Who is eligible to participate in the non-competitive pathway?
Young pianists, string players (violin, viola, cello and double bass), and chamber groups (with piano and/or strings) of all ages and levels are eligible.
What are the fees to enter the non-competitive pathway?
A registration fee of $70 applies and details are on the registration form.
What kind of feedback will I receive?
Adjudicator feedback is focused on musical development and may identify strengths, areas for continued development and suggested next steps for your technical and artistic growth.
What repertoire do I need to prepare?
Participants have considerable flexibility. You may submit a movement of a work, a short set of pieces, excerpts, a complete short work or another appropriate performance selection.
